Bold statement, but something I believe in.

Welcome to part two of ten lessons the great Albert Einstein lived his life by. On this subject of perseverance he said: “It’s not that I’m so smart; it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”

When this was discussed and shared in the mentoring group I am a member of, the statement made was that “perseverance is priceless”, which it absolutely is. When you are looking to make improvements in your life and business, you need to persevere towards your goals, but if you can add persistence in taking the right actions, you will see results.

I Thought Persistence And Perseverance Were The Same Thing?

In basic terms, they can be. There are, however, some subtle differences.

According to Stackexchange.com:
“Persistent” is used when there is continuing action, and the purpose is either bad, or neutral, and sometimes (rarely) good.

“Perseverance”, is used when the purpose is good. That is, you’re doing something to help someone, or to achieve a desirable goal…

Essentially, you may be getting calls from certain companies and you make a statement like:

“I am persistently being called by people about life insurance” or something similar.

The company doesn’t call you perseveringly do they? You perceive this constant bombardment of calls as persistence, which, of course, it is. The ACTIONS being taken by the company is to achieve the goal of X amount of sales per day. You just happen to be one of the unlucky people who are going to be called. The persistent action bolsters the perseverance to reach the goal of the day.

So, if you take this into context with building a business, when you persevere towards your goal, you need to take persistent action on the steps needed to achieve that end. If this means you have to make calls to engage with prospects and try to make sales that way, or generate traffic to a website or capture page to grow your email list, then that’s what you should do.

Persistence of action from you will enhance your own perseverance to reach your goal.

Perseverance IS Priceless

Without perseverance you may lack the motivation to get past any obstacle that is put in front of you. The persistence to work through those problem areas is key to getting the job done. Your own motivation and perseverance is indeed priceless and necessary for you to have the success in your business that you are looking for.

When you persevere and not let anything deter you from your goal, your own persistent action will see you achieve the results you are looking for. This doesn’t mean that you “plough on” regardless if something is not working. You still need to assess things and adjust. All it means is that you may need to take slightly different action to achieve your goal, but that action still needs persistence.

This is why Einstein said “It’s not that I’m so smart; it’s just that I stay with problems longer.” He placed himself in the situation of a problem solver rather than someone who has extreme intelligence.

We ALL have genius inside of us. It’s the way we use it that makes the difference. Einstein and others who are considered as genius often approached problems with common sense and simple solutions, proving that simple is often the best.

Everyone has the capacity to do this, but many of us think of some things as complicated that need a complicated solution we are not capable of producing. Of course, in some cases this may be justified, but not in your own area of “expertise” surely! Applying easy and persistent ACTION is the way forward. Sometimes it takes a little longer to solve a problem or work through to your goal with simple, small tasks, but the long lasting solutions come about with the PERSEVERANCE to reach those goals.

Don’t be afraid to take small steps because a step forward is a positive. Persistence of actions will help your perseverance in the end and you will succeed because of this.

To the future,

Barrie Evans
